Second period sinks Cobras in loss to Bighorns

HELENA — The Helena Bighorns erupted in the second period Friday night, and it was too much for the Butte Cobras to overcome.

Five Bighorns accounted for six goals in the second period as Helena skated to a 7-2 NA3HL Frontier Division win over the Cobras at the Helena Ice Arena. (Stats)

Gavyn Galloway scored both his goals in the second for the Bighorns, who ran their record to 31-2-2. T.J. Norris, Adam Harvey, Logan Matheny and Samuel Feamster also scored in the second.

Liam Bland gave the Bighorns the lead for good just 1 minute, 11 seconds into the game.  Feamster and Tylor Greene assisted on the goal.

Both of Butte’s goals came in the second. Robby Arver scored off assists from Jonah Gilbert and Drysten Bailey. Fabian Vik scored off assists from Carson Streich and Caelin Chinery.

The loss comes just days after Cobra standouts Nick Bradshaw, Luke Schleusner and Cade Wessman were called up to play for the Maine Nordiques of the North American Hockey League.

Friday’s game was the only action of the weekend for the Cobras (15-21-2), who play host to Gillette, Wyoming next Friday and Saturday.
