Sean Ferriter seventh at regional, qualifies for NCAA meet

AUSTIN, Texas — Butte Central graduate Sean “Diesel” Ferriter’s final season on the Montana State track & field team will continue a couple more weeks.

The Bobcat senior will compete in the hammer throw the NCAA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships after placing seventh Friday at the NCAA West Regional meet.

Ferriter launched the hammer 210 feet, 8 inches to place seventh in the event. The top 12 advance to the NCAA meet, which is June 10-13 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Conor McCullough, a senior from USC, won the event with a throw of 246-1. Wisconsin senior Michael Lihrman was second at 235-7. He was followed by Oregon junior Greg Skipper at 227-1, Nebraska senior Will Lohman at 215-10, Wichita State junior Weston Cottrell at 215-3 and Minnesota sophomore Gian Ferretti at 214-6.

Ferriter was a three-sport athlete at Butte Central. He graduated in 2010.
