The Montana Amateur Speed Skating Association will hold the annual School Races Saturday at the United States High Altitude Sports Center.

Race start time is 9:30 a.m., and the race is typically finished by around 1 p.m. The School Races will once again run in coordination with the Snöflinga Winter Festival.

The races are an ice skating competition among area elementary schools in which children are grouped by grade level. Hillcrest Elementary is the defending team champion.

Children will skate several distances (50-800 meters), with lower grade levels skating shorter distances and upper grade levels skating longer distances. First, second, and third place trophies will be awarded to the top three schools. The meet is not limited to speed skaters. Any child who knows how to ice skate is welcome to enter, since the primary objective of the competition is to have fun.

School race registration forms can be picked up at the High Altitude Sports Center Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:30-7:30 p.m., Fridays 6-9 p.m., or on the day of the race by 9 a.m.

Completed forms can be submitted at the Sports Center during the above specified times, or to Tina Donovan at Pre-registration is greatly appreciated. For more information, contact Donovan at 490-5764 or her email address.
