Saturday’s Hot Ticket

Following is a rundown of local sports action on the docket for Saturday, Sept. 22.

Prep Golf
Butte Central at Central A Divisional in Opportunity, 9 a.m.

The Maroons head to the Anaconda Country Club looking to gain spots in next week’s Class A state tournament.

Derek Ralph, Cal Noctor and Bryce Noctor lead the Maroons into the tournament. Jim Joyce and Jack Gallagher are also looking for a berth at state. Regan Weldon is a contender on the girls’ side.

Prep Volleyball
Corvallis at Butte Central, 4 p.m.

The Maroons will try to stop a two-game slide Saturday when they celebrate homecoming against the Blue Devils. The injury-plagued Maroons are coming off Thursday’s four-game loss at Stevensville.

Prep Cross Country
Butte Central, Butte High at Butte High Invite, noon.

The Bulldogs host their lone meet of the season Saturday at the Highland View Golf Course. The first varsity race starts at 1:15 p.m.

The Butte boys’ are trying to bounce back from a disappointing performance last week in Great Falls. Nic Raiser, Hunter Biegler and Forrest Kultgen led Butte High in that meet. Butte High’s girls placed fifth, led by Kendall Alley, Haley Hodge and Bailee Hanson.

Butte Central’s boys will have a team score for the first time with Jarrett Larson joining the team for his first official race. He’ll run with Conor McGee, Shannon Temple, Clay Stillwagon and Connor Larson.

Prep Soccer
Billings West at Butte High, 11 a.m.

It won’t be at night, but Bulldog Memorial Stadium will be the site as the Butte High boys’ and girls’ soccer teams play host to Billings West Saturday. The boys open the doubleheader.

The matches will be the first for the Bulldogs in 11 days. Last Saturday’s home matches against Billings Senior were postponed because of smoke. Those games were supposed to be the school’s first home soccer game under the lights.

The Butte girls (0-4-1) are looking for their first win of the season. The Bulldog boys are 1-3-1. The Bears swept the Bulldogs Sept. 8 in Billings.
