San Marcos tops Orediggers in five

LA MIRADA, Calif. — Montana Tech is 1-1 after the first day of the Biola Summer Slam Tournament.

Several hours after sweeping Concordia (Ore.), the Orediggers fell in a five-set thriller to Cal State San Marcos Thursday night. The Cougars edged the Orediggers 20-25, 25-12, 26-24, 22-25, 15-10 in a match that started at 9 p.m. Mountain time. Box score

Jordan Banich, a 6-foot-1 outside hitter tallied 22 kills to lead San Marcos. Samantha Flores collected 23 digs.

Sydney Norris and Annie Smoot each tallied 12 kills to lead the Orediggers. Bailie Cortner killed eight. Norris also notched 15 digs.

Libero Kimmy Kavran hit the floor for 31 digs, while Alison Lunde dished out 26 assists. Makenzie Bauck added 20 assists.

The Orediggers conclude the tournament Friday when they play Concordia (Calif.) and Westmont College.
