San Diego takes command at Junior America’s Cup

EDMONTON, Alberta — San Diego will take an eight shot lead into the final day of the Junior America’s Cup Thursday at the Blackhawk Golf Club. (Leaderboard)

The San Diego team followed Tuesday’s 205 with a 211 for a 416 total after two days. Southern California and Oregon are tied for second at 424.

Montana sits 17th in the 18-team tournament. The Montana boys followed a 226 with a 228 Wednesday for a 454.

Ian Sievers of Bellevue, Washington, is the individual leader at 10-under par. He hit a 4-under 67 after Tuesday’s 65 for a 132. Mateo Fuenmayer of Beaverton, Oregon, hit a 71 after an opening-round 71 and sits in second at 136.

Bozeman’s Justus Verge leads the Montana tam. He followed a 73 with a 74. Fellow Bozeman golfer J.R. Small hit a 78 after a 74, and Blake Finn of Big Timber improved three shots for a 76.

Butte’s Kaven Noctor, the Montana state champion in the 16-17 age group, shot an 86 after Tuesday’s 85.
