Sampson’s Cougars top Orediggers in exhibition

HOUSTON — Kelvin Sampson got the best of his old team Friday night.

The former Montana Tech coach guided the Houston Cougars to a 95-65 win over the Orediggers in an exhibition men’s college basketball game at the Hofheinz Pavilion. Stats

Devonta Pollard and Rob Gray Jr. each scored 15 points to lead four Cougars in double figures in the win. LeRon Barnes and Galen Robinson Jr. each scored 12. Damyean Dotson added nine points and 15 rebounds.

Jalen Coates tossed in 18 points to lead the Orediggers. Akeem Williams netted 12 points.

In all, eight Orediggers scored points, with Crus Ginns Jr. and Flemming Okeke each tossing in nine points. Paul Engstrom scored eight.

The Orediggers are back in action next weekend when they head to Caldwell, Idaho, for the College of Idaho Domino’s Classic.
