Sammy McGree signs with Orediggers

Montana Tech women’s basketball head coach Carly VanDyke announce the signing of former Butte High standout Sammy McGree to a NAIA Letter of Intent today. McGree has been enrolled at Montana Tech since the fall will join the Diggers for spring workouts and will have four years of eligibility.

“We are very excited to have Sammy join the Montana Tech women’s basketball program,” stated VanDyke. “She is a fierce competitor who truly understands how to play the game.”

McGree had a sensational career at Butte High leading the Bulldogs to the State Class AA semifinals. During her senior year, the 5-foot-7 guard led all Division AA in scoring at 18.7 points per game. McGree also averaged 4.8 rebounds, 4.4 steals and 2.1 assists per contest.

McGree was also named first-ream Class AA All-State. She finished her career second on Butte High girls’ basketball all-time scoring list.

The women’s basketball team lost three seniors on the 2014-15 squad that advanced to the Frontier Conference semifinals. McGree will have the opportunity to replace Mandy Machinal who led the Diggers in scoring at 13.4 points per game.

The daughter of Steve and Terry, McGree is pursuing a degree in engineering.

Best perimeter player in Montana her senior year who didn’t get recruited like she should have been. I would be shocked if she didn’t dominate the Frontier. So happy that she will be back on the court! Congrats, Sammy and bigger congrats to Tech. You got a winner.
