Saluting Our 2020 seniors: Dauenhauer and Averyt

For many years, we have known that Butte High and Butte Central would each have an outstanding senior class of athletes for the 2019-20 school year.

Those seniors, who are now graduates, have proven us correct by giving us four years of memorable performances that spanned the fall, winter and spring.

The COVID-19 pandemic, however, prevented the members of the Class of 2020 from ending their high school careers in the celebrated style that they deserve.

So, Butte Sports has teamed up with KBOW and KOPR to salute our 2020 seniors.

This week, we shine the spotlight on Butte High Bulldogs Lexia Dauenhauer and Dylan Averyt.

Lexia Dauenhauer
Dauenhauer was a fixture on the Butte High girls’ soccer team since her freshman season. She earned four varsity letters while playing multiple positions.

“Lexia’s versatility on the field kept her from being pinned to one position, but it also allowed the girls’ team to switch up formations and styles of play,” Butte High coach Jacob Steilman said. “Lexia was always eager to adapt to new positions and playing styles, while consistently performing at a high level.”

Dauenhauer was also known as a leader of the Bulldogs.

“Lexia Dauenhauer was, above all, a great leader for our team,” Steilman said. “She was always looking for ways that she could improve the team, working with others, and leading by example.”

That next step will be at Montana State University, where the four-time Academic All-State player will major in biological engineering.

Dylan Averyt
Averyt closed his Butte High career with a strong senior season on the field and on the mat.

In the fall, Averyt was a key player in the Butte High defense, helping lead the Bulldogs to the Class AA State championship game.

Averyt, a hard-hitting linebacker, registered 43 tackles in 10 games for the Bulldogs in 2019. That includes 30 solo tackles. He also registered a pair of sacks.

On the mat, Averyt was a part of Butte High’s wrestling team that placed fifth at the Class AA State meet. He advanced to state at 160 pounds by placing seventh at the Western AA Seeding tournament in Helena.
