Saints weep Orediggers

HELENA — Carroll College swept a Frontier Conference basketball doubleheader with Montana Tech Saturday at the P.E. Center.

The No 7 Carroll women won 79-42 before the Saints men completed the sweep with an 88-70 victory.

Danielle Wagner scored 14 points, and Jamie Pickens added 10 for the Carroll women, who took control with a 19-5 first quarter. The Saints led 46-15 at halftime.

Sienna Swannack added nine points for Carroll, which improved to 14-2 overall and 8-1 in league play. Jaidyn Lyman tossed in eight points, while Christine Denny and Emma Madsen both tossed in seven.

Wagner also dished out five of Carroll’s 23 assists, and she joined Maddie Geritz with five rebounds as Carroll won the battle of the boards 40-27.

Mesa Williams scored 11 points to lead the Orediggers. Celestina Faletoi and Mollie Peoples each scored eight points. Tech also got six points from Dani Urick, four from Soda Rice, two apiece from Jaden Comings and Tavia Rooney and one from McKayla Klocker.

Rooney returned to action for the first time since suffering an ankle injury Jan. 9 at home against Rocky Mountain College. The sophomore played just a few minutes.

In the nightcap, Dennis Flowers III scored 22 points, while Jovan Sljivancanin netted 21 as the Saints avenged two losses to Tech in Butte. Carroll led 45-27 at halftime

Carroll also got 11 points from Ifeanyi Okeke, 10 from Brendan Temple, eight from Shamrock Campbell and seven from Gui Pedra. Campbell also dished out nine assists. Flowers dropped six dimes.

Cody Baumstarck and Christian Jones each scored 11 points to lead the Orediggers Camdyn LaRance tossed in 10 points, and Taylor England returned with nine points.

Tech also got seven points form Nate Ward and six points apiece from Derrius Collins, Sindou Diallo and Bridger Deden.

The teams will play again Sunday. The women tip off at 2 p.m., and the men play at 4.
