Saints complete sweep of Montana Western

HELENA — Carroll College swept a Frontier Conference doubleheader with Montana Western for the second straight day Sunday at the P.E. Center.

The No. 7 Carroll women edged the Bulldogs 50-47 before the Saints men topped Western 78-61.

Danielle Wagner’s 17 points and nine rebounds led Carroll’s women in the defensive struggle. The Saints led 31-17 at halftime and held off a late Western charge.

Jamie Pickens scored eight points in the win, while Maddie Geritz scored seven, and Kamden Hilborn tossed in six.

Sydney Sheridan’s 10 points led Western. Lily Gopher tossed in nine, and Paige Holmes netted eight.

Carroll held Brynley Fitzgerald, who scored 37 points on Saturday, to five on Sunday.

Jovan Sljivancanin had a huge game to lead the Saints in the nightcap, scoring 34 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Brendan Temple scored 12, and Gui Pedra tossed in 11 for Carroll, which led 45-30 at the half.

The Saints won the battle of the boards 41-19.

Tanner Haverfield netted 14 points to lead four Bulldogs in double figures. Max Clark scored 11, and Jamal Stephenson and Jok Jok each scored 10.

Western’s teams will play host to the University of Providence next weekend. The Saints will be home to take on Montana Tech.
