Rustlers sweep past tired Bulldogs in Great Falls

GREAT FALLS — The Great Falls Russell soccer teams took a pair of wins from the Butte High Bulldogs Thursday.

The Rustler girls knocked off Butte High 4-0 before the CMR boys beat the Bulldogs 5-0.

The losses capped a buys six-day stretch that saw Butte High play three matches.

Trevyn Roth scored on a penalty kick for Butte High’s lone goal. That gave the junior four goals over the past two games. Roth will also kick for the Butte High football team in their Homecoming game against Billings West on Friday night.

“Our back line had a busy day, running with three very fast CMR forwards,” Butte High coach Riley McNabb said. “Nick Werkmiester is our speed on the back line and played well today. I was very pleased with Eric Rosa and Brandon Quinn, who kept their composure and never got frustrated, keeping the team under control in a very emotionally-charged game.”

Butte High’s girls fell behind 3-0 in the first half and didn’t allow another goal until late in the second half.

“They played well today, but the third game in six days began to take a toll on us physically,” McNabb said. “I’m looking forward to a week off to recover and get the players healthy.”

Butte High’s boys fell to 4-5 on the season. The Bulldog girls are 1-8.

The Bulldogs are back in action next Friday and Saturday when they play Billings Skyview and Billings West.
