Runners take Big Butte Challenge

More than 60 runners took to the hills around the Big M this morning for the 33rd Big Butte Challenge.

The run, put on by the Butte Family YMCA, featured races 11 kilometers, 5 kilometers and mile. Several runners ran the “trifecta,” meaning they participated in all three races.

Nicole Hunt of Deer Lodge was the overall women’s winner in the 11K race, which includes a run up the face of Big Butte. Dewey Peacock of Bozeman won the 11K race.

Full results will be posted when they become available.

Butte runner Lance Oswald, who competed in the “trifecta,” reaches the top of Big Butte during the 11-kilometer race.

Bozeman runner Dewey Peacock finishes strong to win the 11-kilometer race.

Butte native Jennifer (Burby) Hanley of Las Vegas reaches the top of Big Butte during the 11-kilometer race.

Runners take off for the 5-kilometer race Saturday at Montana Tech.
