Rough start sinks Miners in home opener

The Butte Miners dug themselves too big of a hole Thursday night.

Class AA Helena put up an eight spot in the first inning, and the Senators knocked off Butte 13-2 on Miners Field at 3 Legends Stadium. The game, which was the home opener for the Butte club, was called after five innings by the 10-run rule. (Boxscore)

Tyler Tenney homered and drove in three runs to lead the Senators. Hunter Bratcher hit two triples and Judson Seliskar hit one three bagger.

Eamon Burke pitched the distance, fanning 11 batters for the win.

Evan Starr homered to lead the home team. Aidan Lee tripled, and Egan Lester hit a double and a single, driving in a run. Eyston Lakkala added a single for the Miners.

The Miners are back in action Saturday when they travel to the Bitterroot for a doubleheader with the Bucs. The Butte Muckers open the season Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against the Great Falls A at 3 Legends Stadium.
