Rough first period sinks Cobras in Sheridan

SHERIDAN, Wyo. — The Butte Cobras couldn’t overcome a rough first period Friday night.

Sheridan scored four goals in the opening 20 minutes, and the Hawks beat the Cobras 8-2 in an NA3HL Frontier Division game at the Whitney Rink in the M&M Center. (Stats)

The night started in Butte’s favor, too, when Kyler Garsjo scored a goal off assists from Alec Sorby and Ty Stovin 9 minutes, 47 seconds into the game.

Just 10 seconds later, Blake Billings tied the game. Goals by Jonathon, Teasdale, Kamden Sengheiser and Trevor Timm quickly followed as the Hawks took control.

Stovin opened the second period with a goal off assists from Nick Bradshaw and John Steers.

Stepan Ruta answered, and Steven Delikat, Kolten Wright and Sengheiser scored in the third to put the victory to bed.

Luke Fundator turned away 19 shots for the Hawks to get the win in goal. Danny Fielding saved 61 shots for the Cobras.

The Cobras will stay in Sheridan to play the Hawks again Saturday. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
