Rooney Named Frontier Player of the Week

WHITEFISH, Mont. – Montana Tech’s Tavia Rooney was selected the Erck Hotels/Frontier Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

The Orediggers went 1-1 for the week with a home win against MSU-Northern 64-57 on Thursday and fell to No. 12 Montana Western 78-71 in Dillon Saturday.

Rooney recorded her fourth double-double of the season and second straight in the victory over the Skylights. The 6-foot-1 junior forward from Townsend tallied 18 points and 11 boards. She also swiped four steals.

Against the Bulldogs, Rooney tie her career high with six assists. Rooney led the Orediggers with 24 points.

Rooney averaged 21 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks on a well-rounded week. She shot 61.9% from the field and hit 3 of her 8 three-point attempts.

Montana Tech travels to Billings to face No. 20 Rocky Mountain this Thursday.
