For four and a third innings, the Butte Miners went toe to toe with the always-tough Billings Royals Sunday at Copper Mountain Park.

Then the roof caved in on the Miners as the Royals rallied for a 12-0 conference win. The game went the scheduled nine innings.

With one out in the fifth inning, the pitch count and long at bats finally caught up to Butte pitcher Jared Haran as the Royals hung four runs on the board. Billings extended the lead to 9-0 with five runs in the seventh before closing the game with a three-run ninth.

Bryan Mitchell, Joe Immer and Calvin Bjorgum each drove in three runs to lead the Royal offense. Lefty starter Beau Thomas struck out five and walked four over six innings to get the win.

Trey Hoagland hit a pair of singles to lead the Miners. Nate LeProwse, Ryan Moodry, Marcus Madrazo, Zach Hart and Haran added singles.

The game was Butte’s 13^th in 11 days. The busy stretch continues Tuesday when the Miners play a nine-inning game against the Senators in Helena.
