Rocky’s Yang wins POW again

Rocky Mountain College star volleyball player Yang Yang was named the Frontier Conference Player of the Week for the third straight week, the league announced Monday.

Yang is a 6-foot senior middle blocker from Yongan, China. She led Rocky to a 4-0 record at the Big Sky Challenge Tournament over the weekend. The Bears beat No. 1 Texas at Brownsville 3-2, No. 2 Concordia (Calif.) 3-2, No. 8 Biola (Calif.) 3-1 and University of California at Merced 3-0. Rocky started the week with a 3-0 win over crosstown rival MSU-Billings.

Yang averaged 4.65 kills with a .361 attack percentage. She also averaged 1.01 digs and recorded 11 solo blocks and 14 assisted blocks. Rocky snapped a 41-match winning streak with their victory over Brownsville.

Alexis Aalona of Westminster College, Alyssa McEwan of the University of Great Falls, Brea Mitchell of Montana Western, Kathleen Mulligan of Carroll College, Desiree Nielson of Lewis-Clark State and Jessica Wilcox of Montana State-Northern were also nominated for the award.
