WHITEFISH — Rocky Mountain College basketball players Jared Samuelson and Brooke Jones were named Frontier Conference Players of the Week, the league announced today.
Samuelson, a transfer from the University of Montana, took home the men’s award, while Jones received the women’s honor.
Samuelson is a 6-foot-7 sophomore forward from Billings. Rocky lost to Menlow College (California) 81-78 in the first game of the Cactus Classic in Chandler, Arizona.
Samuelson scored 24 points and pulled down 17 rebounds. He was 9 of 16 from the field including 3 of 5, 3-point field goals, and he was 3 for 3 from the free throw line.
Jake Miles,: Trystan Bradley of Lewis-Clark State Ryan Reeves of MSU-Northern were also nominated.
Jones is a 5-11 junior forward from Manhattan. The Bears went 3-0 on a Arizona road trip. Rocky beat Ottawa (Arizona ) 63-50, Benedictine-Mesa (Arizona) 64-53 and Arizona Christian (RV) 64-63.
She averaged 17 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.3 steals. Jones was 22 of 34 from field (65 percent) and 6 of 7 from the free throw line. Against national ranked Arizona Christian, she scored 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
Jones scored the game-winning basket with 4.5 seconds remaining in game.
Jansen Edmiston of Lewis-Clark State and Peyton Filius of MSU-Northern were also nominated.
