BILLINGS — Rocky Mountain College women’s basketball coach Wes Keller announced today the signing of junior college transfer Destiny Amezquita (ahm-zoo-key-ta) to an NAIA letter of intent.
Amezquita, a 5-foot-5 guard, joins the Battlin’ Bears after a successful two-year career at Cochise College (Douglas, Ariz.). During her two years, Amezquita averaged 15 points a game for the Apaches, while connecting on 157 three-point shots for a percentage of 35 percent. She also hit on 80 percent of her free throw attempts.
As a freshman at Cochise, Amezquita was named Arizona Community College Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year, as well as first-team All-Region. She was also All-Conference both seasons.
“Destiny is a tremendous long-range shooter, who has the ability to make her teammates better,” Keller said. “She has a high basketball I.Q. Her ability to beat people off the dribble and deliver the pass to an open teammate, makes her a great addition to our program.”
Amezquita is from San Antonio, Texas, where she attended Jay High School.
