Rocky women work overtime to top Argos

GREAT FALLS — Five Rocky Mountain College players — including Butte Central graduate Kloie Thatcher — scored in double figures Thursday night, and the Battlin’ Bears opened Frontier Conference play with an 86-77 overtime win over the University of Providence. (Stats)

Rocky outscored Providence 86-15 in the extra frame.

Markaela Francis, who hit two free throws with 10 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime, scored 27 points to lead the Bears. Destinee Pointer scored 17 points, while Thatcher tossed in 15.

Thatcher, a sophomore and reigning Frontier Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, also grabbed five rebounds and handed out three assists.

Mackenze Dethman and Antuanisha Wright each scored 10 points in the win.

Emilee Maldonado’s 21 points paced the Argos Parker Esary scored 16, Bailey Cartwright tossed in 14, and Kennedy Cartwright netted 10.

Rocky will head to Havre to take on MSU-Northern on Saturday.
