HELENA — The Rocky Mountain College men’s golf team shot a blistering 269 Monday in the first round of the Carroll College Invitational.
Four Battlin’ Bears shot in the 60s on the Par-71 Green Meadow Country Club, with Michael Tait leading the way with a 66. He is tied with Providence’s Taylor Kuntz atop the individual leaderboard.
Mitchell Thiessen and Reece Nilsen of Rocky are tied at 67, while four golfers shot 68.
Montana Tech’s Sean Benson is tied for 10th place at 69 heading into the second round, which is being played this afternoon.
Carroll College sits in second place at 275, while Montana Tech is fifth at 295.
Houston Green added a 74 for the Orediggers, while Trey Hoagland and Ryan Keenan each shot a 76.
Rocky is also leading the women’s tournament after a first-round 290. Providence’s Gina Kowolchuck shot a 30 on the back nine for a 66 to take the individual lead. Lewis-Clark State College’s Marissa Louder and Rocky’s Anna DeMars are tied for second at 70.
Tanna Campbell shot a 78 and is tied for 10th place. The Orediggers hit 322 as a team.
Also for the Orediggers, Lynzee Dexter shot 80, Taryn Campbell and Hailey Ogolin hit 82, and Ashton McCloskey carded a 94.
The second and final women’s round will be played Tuesday.
