BILLINGS — Retired Butte teacher Ed Yeo will be inducted into the Rock Mountain College Clara Klindt Athletic Hall of Fame for the second time this September.
Yeo, who was inducted into the Hall as an individual in 2003, will go in this time with his 1964 Rocky Mountain College baseball team.
Rocky Mountain College Director of Athletics Bruce Parker announced the 2016 Hall of Fame Class on Monday. Also heading into the Hall are Paul Barta, Robert Fisher, Spencer Fisher, Hailey Pearce and Joe White, along with the 1987-88 women’s basketball teams.
In 1964, the Battlin’ Bears, who were coached by the legendary Herb Klindt, came within one game of qualifying for that season’s NAIA national tournament.
The team claimed the Montana Collegiate Conference championship with a 5-0 record, and finished the season 12-6 overall. In the District 12 championship game, the Battlin’ Bears dropped a 1-0 decision to Mayville State, North Dakota.
Members of the 1964 team who have already been inducted into the Hall of Fame on an individual basis are Herb Klindt (class of 1990), Ron Nelson (2012), Pat O’Connor (1995), Dale Pohle (1997) and Yeo.
Yeo was a freshman pitcher for the Battlin’ Bears during the 1964 season.
Yeo went on to teach math at Butte High School, where he coached the golf team for more than 30 years. Yeo’s girls’ golf teams won back-to-back state titles in 1984-85. Those teams were inducted into the Butte Sports Hall of Fame in 2013.
Yeo’s wife, Bonnie, is also a retired Butte teacher.
Hall of Fame Weekend is scheduled for Sept. 9-10. The induction dinner and ceremony will take place Friday, Sept. 9. This year’s inductees, along with current members of the Hall of Fame in attendance, will be introduced during halftime of the Rocky-Carroll College football game on Saturday, Sept. 10.
