Red-hot Johnson doubles in win

OMAHA, Neb. — Rob Johnson is still on a roll.

The Butte native went 2 for 5 with a double and two RBIs Monday to help the Memphis Redbirds beat the Omaha Storm Chasers 7-1 in a Pacific Coast League game.

Johnson also called the game that saw four pitchers combine to hold Omaha to one run on five hits. Starter Mitchell Boggs went two innings. Sam Freeman pitched three innings in relief, while Kevin Siegrist and Marc Rzepczynski both threw to innings of relief.

Johnson raised his batting average to .221 on the season. In 37 games, Johnson is 27 for 122 with four doubles, five home runs and 19 RBIs. He’s batting .300 (9 for 30) with two doubles, two home runs and eight RBIs over the last 10 games.

The first-place Redbirds close out the five-game series with Omaha today. The team returns home to start a four-game set with Nashville on Thursday.
