Rams roll past Maroons, 15-1

Sometimes it just isn’t your day.

That was certainly the case for the Butte Central softball team in its first game of Day 2 of the Laverne Combo Invitational.

Billings Central pounded 17 hits and the Rams rolled past the Maroons in a game where everything that could go wrong did go wrong for the hometown girls.

Taryn Fransichette went 4 for 4 to lead the Rams, who batted around in the third and fourth innings to blow the game wide open.

Pitcher Alexa Rockwell held BC to just three hits before the game was called by a time limit after four innings.

She also went 3 for 4. Molly Day, who drove in four runs, joined Sarah Shaw, Skyler Rockwell and Morgan Smith with a two-hit game.

The Maroons, who fell to 7-8 overall, play Belgrade at 4 p.m.

The team showed signs that it might be ready to redeem itself in the final inning of the loss to the Rams.

Hannah Stajcar, who singled in the first inning and made a couple of stellar plays at second, flied out to deep center field.

Then freshman Shawnee Hjelt hit a two out single. She scored when Teresa Piazzola doubled to the gap in right-center field.
