Talk about a quick turnaround.
About 16 hours after winning the Butte High cross country team’s Purple and White run, incoming Butte High freshman Nic Raiser was at it again Saturday morning.
Raiser won the 5-kilometer race in the St. James Healthcare Foundation Ticker Tuner Fun Run, which started and finished at Butte’s Chester Steele Park.
Casey Merrifield won the the 1-mile run, while Don Foley was the fastest runner in the 10K. In all, 121 people competed in the race on the sunny, hot morning on the difficult course on Butte’s west side.
Raiser completed the 5K, which is 3.1 miles, in 20 minutes, 35 seconds. Fellow Butte High cross country runners Kody Lane (20:59) and Hunter Biegler (21:19) placed second and third.
Susan Kaluza was the first female across the line with a winning time of 21:45.
Merrifeld won the mile race in an impressive time of 6:25. Quinn Sullivan was second at 6:32.5. Zach Merrifield was third at 6:31.7. The second two runners were so close that positioning came down to a judges decision.
Foley finished the race in 44:59 for the victory in the 10K. Lance Oswald was second at 47:44. Michelle Bazzenall was third overall and the first finisher with a time of 51:39.
