MISSOULA — Butte High will send 20 boys’ wrestlers to the All-Class State tournament next week in Billings.
Two will be heading as Western AA champions.
Senior Kyler Raiha and junior Mason Christian claimed the top spots in their weight classes to lead Butte High Saturday at the Western AA Seeding tournament at Missoula Big Sky.
Of the 20 Bulldogs moving on, 19 are in the top five. None are seeded seventh our eight. The top eight place winners head to Billings.
Raiha claimed a Western AA title in the 120-pound division. He beat Diesel Thompson of Flathead in a 6-4 championship battle.
Mason won at 182 pounds. He topped Noah Poe-Hatten of Flathead 5-4 in the championship match.
Trey Whitlock, at 113 pounds, and Connor Konda, a 152, placed second for the Bulldogs. Whitlock dropped a 4-2 decision to Aiden Downey of Flathead in the championship. Konda fell 3-0 to Cade Troupe of Flathead in his title tilt.
Placing third for the Bulldogs were Reid Whitlock at 103, Will Stepan at 132, Maverick McEwen at 145 and Riley Downey at 170. McEwen beat teammate Trey Hansen in the third-place match.
Joining Hansen with fourth seeds are Gunnar Yelenich at 126, Gavin Vetter at 160 and Kade Schleeman at 285.
Fifth-place seeds for the Bulldogs are Grady Winston at 113, Cole Worley at 120, Morgan McClernan at 160, Aiden Cuchine at 170 and Cohen Grunhuvd at 205. Kale Schonsberg will head to Billings as the sixth seed at 152.
The state tournament will begin Thursday with girls’ action.
