Queer, Tierney reach semis at CMR Holiday Classic

GREAT FALLS — Butte High wrestlers Jeff Queer and Gabe Tierney advanced to the semifinals of the 40th CMR Holiday Classic Friday at the CMR Fieldhouse. (Results)

Queer will wrestle Levi Malcom of Billings West in the semifinals of the heavyweight division, while Tierney will take on Starling Quinn of Bozeman in the semis at 120 pounds.

Queer and Tierney are ranked No. 1 in their weight classes in the coaches poll.

In all, nine Bulldogs head into Saturday, and the Bulldogs are battling for a spot in the top three of team scores.

Bozeman leads the team race with 126 points. Great Falls High is second at 123, followed by Billings Senior at 104 and Colstrip at 96.

Butte High is fifth with 95 points.

Butte’s Quinn Sullivan (145 pounds), Carl Anderson (160) and Kameron Moreno (182) reached the semifinals of their weight classes before falling.

They are still battling in the consolation rounds.

Wil Queer (103), Tarryn Powers (113), Scout Allen (126) and Kobe Moreno (170) are also still alive for the Bulldogs.

Butte Central’s Clay Fisher advanced to the quarterfinals before falling at 132 pounds. Fisher is still in contention for third place.
