Quake close out Cobras in weekend opener

A late surge by the Yellowstone Quake brought down the Butte Cobras Friday night.

Yellowstone closed out the third period with three straight goals, breaking a 4-all tie on its way to a 7-4 NA3HL Frontier Division win in front of a crowd of 362 at the Butte Community Ice Center. (Stats)

The game was the opener of a two-game weekend series.

Cameron Deforest put the Quake up for good 9 minutes, 32 seconds into the third period on a goal assisted by Gustov Ostman and Gabe Coppo.

Ostman added two more goals to put the victory away. Deforest joined Ostman and Jack Harris with two goals in the win. Coppo also scored, and Luc Haggitt turned away 32 shots to get the win in net.

The Yellowstone surge came after Tamer Billman and Cade Wessman scored two quick goals tin the third to tie the game at 4.

Luke Schleusner and Nick Bradshaw both added a goal and two assists in the Butte effort. Wessman, Ross Biggerstaff, Robby Avery and J.D. Lion also assisted goals for the Cobras.

Butte fell to 9-14-2 with its second straight loss. Yellowstone improved to 5-16-2.

The teams will play again Saturday at 7 p.m.
