OTHELLO, Wash. – Former Montana Tech Oredigger Roman Pruneda-Garza signed a contract to play professional basketball this week. Garza travels to Tampico, Mexico, in early September to play for the Tampico Huracanes this year.
“It’s awesome to see a Montana Tech graduate have the chance to play professional basketball,” Montana Tech men’s basketball coach Patrick O’Herron said. “Roman is an extremely hard worker and will be an asset to the team, organization and community. I look forward to following Roman throughout his season.”
Garza, who graduated last spring, spent three seasons with the Tech basketball team. His parents are originally from Garza-Gonzalez, Mexico, six hours north of Tampico.
“I’m really grateful for the career and support I had at Montana Tech and would like to thank all my coaches and teammate while at Tech,” said Garza from his home in Othello, Washington. “I’m extremely excited and can’t wait to give my new home everything that I once gave Montana Tech.”
The preseason for the Huracanes begins Sept. 8.
