Kodie Hoagland in four-way tie for second place
BOZEMAN — Butte High junior Jack Prigge is one shot out of the lead after the first day of the Class AA State golf tournament.
Prigge matched par with a 72 at Cottonwood Hills Golf Club Thursday and sits in a tie with his cousin Joe McGreevey of Helena Capital. (Results)
The cousins will play in the Friday’s final group with Gallatin brothers Jordan and Justus Verge. The twins share the lead after shooting a 71 in the first round.
Hayden Ellis of Big Sky is third at 73, one shot better than Will Salonen of Glacier.
Prigge shot a 33 on the front 9 and a 39 on the back during the first round. McGreevey hit 36 in and out.
Butte High freshman Brenner Booth, the only other Bulldog boy playing, opened with an 86.
On the girls’ side, Billings West golfer Bella Johnson shot a 2-under 71 to take a commanding lead. Butte High senior Kodie Hoagland shot an 82 and is tied for second place with Chloe Tanner of Kalispell Glacier, Elly Atkins of Bozeman and Kadence Fischer of Billings West.
West hit 320 to take the team lead. Gallatin is a distant second at 355, which is two-shots better than Bozeman. Butte High shot a 457 and sits in 10th place.
Dylan Bartoletti hit a 116 for the Bulldogs. Taylor Sullivan shot a 119, and Kendyllen Lean hit 141. Bartoletti, Sullivan and Lean are freshmen who helped the Bulldogs qualify for State last week at the Western AA Divisional tournament.
Gallatin hit 294 to take the team lead on the boys’ side. Glacier is second at 302, and Helena Capital is third at 311. A team needs for players for a score.
Friday’s final round is set to begin at 10 a.m. It could be delayed in the event of frost or dew.
