BOZEMAN — Butte golfers Jack Prigge and Chase Choquette are in contention after the first round of the two-day Montana State Junior Championships at Cottonwood Hills Golf Course.
Prigge carded a 2-over-par 74 and sits in a tie for fifth place in the 16-18 age group. (Results)
Justus Verge of Bozeman shot a 3-under 69 to take the lead. His brother Jordan holds down second place with a 73.
Carson Hackmnann of Laurel and Will Salonen of Kalispell are tied at 73, and Prigge is tied with Zeke Boos of Missoula.
Playing in the 13-and-under division, Choquette shot a 76 on the first round. That puts him in a tie for sixth place with Royce Taylor of Laurel.
Hamilton golfer Brady Powell took the first-day lead with a 67. He is one shot better than Maxwell Milton of Polson. John Gilbert of Helena shot a 70, Cooper Bourret of Bozeman shot a 71, and Colin Jensen of Billings shot a 74.
In the 14-15 age group, Kade McDonough of Missoula shot a 70 to take the lead. He is two shots ahead of Bozeman’s Hunter Emerson.
In the girls’ 16-18 group, Hamilton’s Macee Greenwood shot a 72 to take a three-shot lead over Samantha Yates of Bozeman. Samantha Benson of Billings and Emma Woods of Fairfield shot 76.
Butte’s Kodie Hoagland is competing in the 16-18 age group. She has some work to do after a first-round 91.
Kira Connell of Bozeman hit an 87 to lead the girls’ 13-and-under division, and Addiley Lloyd of Bozeman shot a 79 and tops the field in the 14-15 group.
The tournament concludes on Tuesday.
