Polson boys roll past Yellowjackets

Matthew Rensvold scored 19 points to lead the way Wednesday afternoon, and the Polson Pirates knocked off Stevensville 55-35 in a first-round of the Western A boys’ basketball tournament at the Butte Civic Center. Stat sheet

Rensvold, a 6-foot-4 junior post, made 9 of 11 shots from the field. He also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds for the Pirates, who took control with a 15-6 second quarter.

The Pirates (15-4) broke open a 23-15 game at halftime with a 20-8 run in the third quarter.

Shade Main added 10 points in the win. Payton Lefthand scored nine points, while Julian Jones scored eight.

Liam LeCoure, Jarod Kingsberry and James Frey each scored seven points to lead the Yellowjackets (5-14), who head to loser-out action.

Polson will play the winner of tonight’s Frenchtown-Hamilton game in Friday’s semifinals.
