Pirates edge Broncs to stay alive at State A

MISSOULA — Payton Left Hand hit 1 of 3 free throws with 3 tenths of a second left Friday afternoon, and the Polson Pirates knocked off the Hamilton Broncs in a 51-50 thriller at Dahlberg Arena. Stat sheet

The game was a loser-out battle at the Class A State boys’ basketball tournament on the campus of the University of Montana.

Polson (17-6) will play in Saturday’s 11 a.m. loser-out game against the loser of Friday’s semifinal between Dillon and Hardin. The Broncs close the season at 12-12.

Matthew Rensvold tossed 27 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Pirates, who bounced back from Thursday’s loss to Billings Central. Julian Jones scored 12 points.

Hunter Omlid scored 12 points. That included a game-tying 3-pointer with 12 seconds left.
