ESPN is reporting that Bobby Petrino has been offered the job as head football coach at Louisville. Petrino is expected to accept the job and return to the school that he led to an Orange Bowl title in 2006.
Petrino, the current coach at Western Kentucky, would replace Charlie Strong. Strong was recently named head coach at Texas.
Petrino was a star quarterback at Carroll College, where he played under his father, Bob Petrino, a Butte native.
Bobby Petrino, 52, graduated from Helena Capital High School in 1979. His father coached Butte Central from 1965 through 1970 before moving on to a long career at Carroll.
The younger Petrino also had a run as head coach at Arkansas, where his staff included Butte native Kevin Peoples. Peoples now coaches at the University of Auburn at Burningham.
Petrino’s brother, Paul, is the head coach at the University of Idaho, where Butte native Rob Spear is the athletic director.
