Peoples goes for 23 in MSU-B win

ST. GEORGE, Utah — Butte native Quinn Peoples scored 23 points to lead the MSU-Billings women’s basketball team to a 74-71 win over Dixie State Friday, Nov. 16.

Peoples scored four points the next night in a 69-47 win over Colorado Mesa. The games were part of the Dixie State Tournament.

Peoples, who helped lead Butte Central to the 2010-11 Class A State title, hit four of her five 3-pointers in the first half against Dixie State.

“Great win for us, we came out and played well on both ends of the court,” head coach Kevin Woodin said. “Defensively, we were very good on the boards and were able to get several transition baskets. Peoples’ four three pointers in the first half were critical and helped us stretch out their defense.”

Peoples also grabbed three rebounds and collected a steal. She was one of three Yellowjackets to scored in double figures. Bobbi Knudsen poured in 18, while Brooke Tolman scored 10.

Kayleen Goggins scored 13 to lead the Yellowjackets (3-1) against Colorado Mesa.

Through four games, Peoples averages 13.0 points per game. That’s good for second on the team. As a true freshman last season, Peoples averaged 9.9 points per game. She averaged 10.9 points in Great Northwest Athletic Conference games.

MSU-Billings will host the Yellowjacket Women’s Basketball Classic Friday and Saturday in Billings.
