Peoples, Berg attend camp

Montana Tech’s Matt Berg and Butte Central’s Danny Peoples recently attended a kicking and punting camp in Holt Arena on the campus of Idaho State University in Pocatello.  The camp, which was hosted by the Lifetime Kicking Academy, was held on Saturday, April 13.  Berg and Peoples were among a group of high school, college and professional kickers and punters from the states of Oregon, Idaho and Utah at the camp.

The camp was directed by Dan Zeidman, who is the owner and head coach of the Lifetime Kicking Academy.  Zeidman was an All-American kicker and punter at Idaho State from 2005-2007.  In 2008 he signed a free agent contract with the Carolina Panthers and spent the summer training with the team.  After being released, he spent time with the Buffalo Bills, Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks before kicking for the Colorado Ice indoor team.

The camp featured a full day of kicking and punting work, as well as competitions in both areas.  Campers also met with ISU Strength and Conditioning Coach Mark Campbell and sports psychologist Dr. John Fitzpatrick who spoke on the mental side of kicking.

Berg and Peoples performed well in the competition portion of the camp.  Both Butte kickers hit multiple field goals in the 40-50 yard range during the camp field goal competition.  In the kick off segment of the camp, Berg was one of the top college kickers and Peoples was one of the top high school kickers.

Berg is a 5-foot-9, 180-pound sophomore kicker and quarterback for the Montana Tech Orediggers.  The former Butte High Bulldog star kicker and quarterback was the starting kicker for the Orediggers in 2012.

Peoples is a 5-11, 165-pound sophomore kicker, quarterback and free safety for the Maroons. In 2011 as a freshman, he was an All-Conference Honorable Mention kicker.  In 2012, he was named to the Southwestern “A” All-Conference First Team as a kicker. Peoples also started several games at free safety in 2012.

Both Berg and Peoples were backup quarterbacks for their teams in 2012.

Berg and Peoples began training under Coach Zeidman during the summer of 2012.  The Lifetime Kicking Academy will hold instructional camps in Butte on June 18 and July 27.  The camps are open to junior high, high school, and college kickers, punters and long snappers. Coach Zeidman will also be in Bozeman on June 28 as the head coach of the Montana State University Kicking Camp.  For additional information on these camp and training opportunities interested athletes may email Coach Zeidman at or call him at (619) 218-4901.
