Butte native Paul Petrino is a finalist for the head football coaching job at the University of Idaho, the Spokesman Review is reporting.
Petrino, the brother of former Arkansas and Atlanta Falcons coach Bobby Petrino and the son of legendary Carroll College coach Bob Petrino, is one of five finalist for the job.
The Spokesman Review reports that Central Washington’s Blaine Bennett, San Jose State offensive coordinator Brian Lindgren, Wyoming defensive coordinator Chris Tormey and Idaho interim coach Jason Gesser are also candidates for the job.
Petrino, a four-year starting quarterback at Carroll, is currently the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at Arkansas. John L. Smith is the head coach of Arkansas, and he’s been told he won’t return next year.
The Arkansas coaching staff includes Butte native Kevin Peoples and former Idaho head coach and University of Washington defensive coordinator Nick Holt, whose son Ben just finished a strong sophomore season at linebacker for Butte Central.
Idaho Athletic Director Rob Spear is a Butte Central graduate.
