Parvinens finish marathon together

NEW YORK — Butte runners Mark and Jody Parvinen ran the New York City Marathon side by side Sunday.

The Parvinens, who are husband and wife, finished the race 2 seconds apart in Central Park. Jody finished in 5 hours, 51 minutes, 31 seconds, according to the chip timer. Mark finished 2 seconds behind at 5:51:33.

The Mining City runners ran to raise money for Mariah’s Challenge. They actually trained for the race twice.

Last year, the Parvinens flew to New York just in time to learn that the race was canceled because of Superstorm Sandy.

The marathon was the second for both Parvinens. Jody finished the Missoula Marathon in July. Mark ran that race in 2011.
