Owens, Schreibeis, Wagenmann, Tripp named All-Americans

OGDEN, Utah —  The Big Sky Conference placed 15 players on the Associated Press Division I Football Championship Subdivision All-America Team, leading all conferences in selections.

The team was released on Wednesday. Eastern Washington offensive lineman Will Post, and Montana State linebacker Jody Owens and Bobcat defensive end Caleb Schreibeis earned First Team accolades.

Cal Poly slotback Deonte Williams, Eastern Washington wide receiver Brandon Kaufman, Northern Colorado all-purpose player Dominic Gunn, Southern Utah kicker Colton Cook, Thunderbird defensive tackle Cody Larsen, Montana defensive end Zach Wagenmann, and Northern Arizona punter Andy Wilder were named to the Second Team.

UC Davis offensive lineman Sean Davies, Idaho State tight end Josh Hill, Eastern Washington kicker Jimmy Pavel, Montana linebacker Jordan Tripp, and Portland State linebacker Ian Sluss earned Third Team honors.

Post, a 6-foot-6, 295-pound senior from Portland, Ore., was also named to the American Football Coaches Association All-America Team last week. Post and the Eastern Washington Eagles take on Sam Houston State in a national semifinal on Saturday.

Owens, the Big Sky Defensive MVP, has also been named to the AFCA team and The Sports Network All-America Team. Owens, a 6-foot, 223-pound senior from Mesquite, Texas, finished the season with 96 tackles – 14.5 for loss – and four forced fumbles.

Schreibeis, a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, led the Big Sky with 12.5 sacks and 15 tackles for loss. He led the nation with eight forced fumbles. The Buchanan Award winner will be announced on Monday. Schreibeis was also named to The Sports Network All-America Team.

So far, 20 different Big Sky players have earned All-America honors from the AP, Sports Network, or AFCA.
