Orediggers win two in Houston

Houston —Montana Tech’s volleyball team continued to roll Friday, opening the St. Thomas Labor Day Tournament with a pair of wins to run the team’s record to 8-1.

The Orediggers beat the University of St. Thomas in a , 27-25,11-25,25-22,23-25,15-6 thriller before sweeping  St. Catherine 25-13 27-25 25-18.
Junior Korey Krumm led the Diggers with 19 kills on 26 attempts and only one error in the opener.  Freshman Kimmy Kavran had 34 digs in the match. That mark puts her second in the record books for most digs in a game. The record is 40 by Beka Hudson in 2005.

Freshman Sydney Norris served four aces in the match and senior Allyse Cruise had three.

In the second match, senior Shersteen Cline led the Diggers with 17 kills, while Norris followed with 13. had 10 kills to follow up her solid performance in the previous match.

Kavran had 28 digs in the match for an average of 7.75 digs per set so far in Houston.

The Diggers have three matches Saturday before they return home to open the conference season on Thursday.
