Orediggers top Argos on Collins putback

GREAT FALLS — Derrius Collins grabbed his own rebound and laid in a hoop with 2 seconds left Friday night, and Montana Tech knocked off No. 8 University of Providence 82-80 in a Frontier Conference game a the McLaughlin Center. (Stats)

The win is Tech’s 10th in 11 games, lifting the Orediggers to 14-6 overall and 6-3 in league play. The victory also avenges Tech’s only loss since Dec. 7. The Argos topped Tech 76-71 Jan. 16 in Butte.

Collins’ game-winning shot came 1 minute, 27 seconds after a bucket by Providence’s Joe Thabize tied the game at 80.

Sindou Diallo scored 24 points to lead the Orediggers, who led 46-36 at halftime. He was one of four Orediggers to reach double figures scoring.

Troy Owens Jr. scored 14 points, and Taylor England added 12 points and 12 rebounds. Drew Huse scored 10 for the Oreiggers, who got eight apiece from Dylan Pannabecker and Collins.

Zaccheus Darko-Kelly’s 25 points paced the Argos (18-3, 6-3).  Brandon Cotton scored 16 points, while Jaxen Hashley tossed in 10, and Thabize netted 10.

Montana Tech will head north to Havre for a Saturday showdown with MSU-Northern.
