Orediggers to honor Nickel, Burns, military

Montana Tech will honor Hall of Fame inductees Brian Nickel and Stephan Burns during Saturday’s Homecoming football game against Southern Oregon.

Saturday is also Military Appreciation Day, with anyone with a military ID receiving free admission.

Kickoff is at 1 p.m. The tailgate opens at 11 a.m.

Nickel was a first team All-American punter in 2009 averaging 42.6 yards per kick. Burns, a Butte native, led the nation in sacks in 2009 on his way to a first team All-American nod. A social at the Knights of Columbus for the Hall of Fame induction will follow the football game.

The Digger Athletic Department hosts the Brew Ha-Ha Friday night at the Front Street Station. The Brew Ha-Ha is the annual fall fundraiser to help support Digger Athletics. Tickets are $25 a plate which includes microbrew samples. Digger Ball tickets are still available for $125 a couple which includes a ball in the hopper for a chance to win cash and prizes plus $500 in chips for the casino night festivities.  There will also be live and silent auctions.  The event gets underway at 7 p.m. and walk ups are accepted.

The weekly Scouting Report is at the Vu Villa on Thursday at noon. Every Thursday the Montana Tech coaches and staff give a weekly breakdown of their programs.
