GREAT FALLS — Montana Tech’s hot start to the volleyball season carried over into Frontier Conference play.
The No. 18 Orediggers knocked off No. 16 University of Providence 3-1 Thursday night. The match was the league opener for both teams.
After working overtime to take the first set 26-24, the Orediggers won the second set 25-18. Following a 25-17 win by the Argos in the third set, Tech closed out the victory with a 26-24 win. (Stats)
Freshman star Maureen Jessop tallied 15 kills to lead three Orediggers in that category. Gena McMillan spiked 12 kills, and Karina Mickelson added 10 in the win. Heather Thompson registered eight kills on just 17 attempts.
McKenna Kaelber served up 40 assists, and Sabrina Hopcroft and Mickelson led the backcourt with 20 digs apiece. McMillan collected 16 digs.
Kelsey Shaver’s 18 kills led the Great Falls attack as the Argos fell to 10-2 on the season. The Orediggers, who upped their record to 13-2, will play host to MSU-Northern Saturday night.
