BUTTE, Mont. – The University of Providence made Montana Tech earn their 25th home victory, including an overtime period. The No. 12 Orediggers extended their streak winning 94-87.
The Orediggers (19-3, 7-2) are now up a game in the Frontier Conference standings over the Argos (12-10, 6-3) and two games on Carroll College.
The Argos scored the first points, but Tech came out firing right after as Michael Ure hit a three-pointer putting Tech up 3-2. The Orediggers held the lead until the final minutes of the game.
The Orediggers shot 52.9% in the first half but hit just 4 of 14 from deep. Ure and Caleb Bellach had 11 points each in the first half.
The Argos struggled shooting 38.7% in the first half.
The Orediggers outrebounded the Argos 20-11 before the break as Tech led 49-34.
The Orediggers held a comfortable lead in the second until the final ten minutes when the Argos started chipping away. Providence outscored Tech 27-13 down the stretch including 4 of 8 shooting from beyond the arc. Eric Milner had 12 points and Sam Vining had six.
Tech shot 5 of 19 in the last ten minutes.
Vining hit a three pointer with 1:26 left in the game giving the Argos a 78-75 lead.
Bridger Larson made a layup to cut the lead to 78-77. On the ensuing foul, Milner made two free throws putting the lead back to three.
Bellach made an acrobatic layup and drew the foul on the next possession. With just nine seconds on the clock, Bellach made the free throw chance to tie the game.
A missed layup by the Argos and a foul on Camden LaRance after he picked up the rebound put the game down to free throws with 1.8 seconds on the clock. But LaRance missed both opportunities and the game went into overtime.
Hayden Diekhans was the difference maker in overtime scoring eight of the Orediggers 14 points and Tech went 6 for 7 from the free throw line to finish the game. Tech scored the final seven points in overtime.
The Orediggers finished 43.6% from the field and the Argos nearly matched shooting 43.3%. The Argos went 12 for 30 from deep and the Orediggers hit just 4 of 23 from beyond the arc.
Tech hit 22 for 28 from the free throw line and outrebounded the Argos 39-33.
Bellach finished with 18 points and nine rebounds. Ure had 15 points and five boards.
Diekhans had 14 points and ten rebounds for the double-double.
All five starters hit double-digits with Chrison Dixon and Asa Williams netting 12 a piece.
Bridger Larson added 14 points off the bench and Keeley Bake had nine.
Milner led the Argos with 22 points coming off the bench. Davien Harris-Williams had 10 points.
Marcus Stephens finished with 15 points and ten rebounds.
The Orediggers travel to Havre to face the MSU-Northern Lights Saturday.
