Orediggers Start Hot but Fall to No. 11 Saints 60-48

BUTTE, Mont. – The Montana Tech women’s basketball team returned to Frontier Conference action challenging the top ranked No. 11 Carroll College Fighting Saints. The Orediggers held their own and played the Saints tough but fell in the end losing 60-48.

The Orediggers (4-9, 0-3) jumped on the Saints early taking a 11-2 lead in the first quarter. The Saints trailed at the end of the quarter but cut the deficit to 20-17. Tech went 6 for 8 from the field and 3 for 3 from beyond the arc in the first frame.

Both teams cooled in the second quarter as the Orediggers took a slim 27-26 lead into halftime.

As the Saints started to heat up again after halftime, the Orediggers couldn’t find their shot to trail the Saints 43-34 going into the final quarter. Tech would cut the Carroll lead to five in the final frame, but the Saints held on for their sixth straight win.

The Orediggers shot 34.9% from the field in the game and only hit one three-pointer after the first quarter. Tech outrebounded Carroll with a 30-25 margin.

Both teams shot strong from the free throw line with Tech hitting 14 of 16 and Carroll going 13 for 16.

The Saints only hit three long balls in the game and finished shooting 38.6% from the field.

Aubrie Rademacher led the Orediggers with 14 points and 9 rebounds.

Tavia Rooney had 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists.

McKayla Kloker finished with 8 points and Challis Westwater had 7.

Jamie Pickens led the Saints with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Kyndall Keller had 16 points and 5 rebounds.

The Orediggers are at home again this weekend when they host the University of Providence at 2 p.m. Saturday.
