BUTTE, Mont.- The Orediggers of Montana Tech have started the 2023-24 campaign with a flourish, downing the Arrows of Portland Bible College 116-43.
Eleven different Orediggers scored in the victory, led by returning starter Asa Williams with 27 points. Asa shot 12 of 15 from the floor and 2 of 4 from the arc. Sophomore Hayden Diekhans put down 14 points, most of them via two-hand slams. Michael Ure went 3 of 6 from the floor and finished with eight points.
Then we were able to see some exciting new faces for the Orediggers, like Ifeanyi Okeke. Okeke transferred from Carroll College a year ago and sat last year with his red shirt. Ifeanyi played 24 minutes and scored 16 points in the win.
True freshman Josh Coulanges played 16 minutes, shooting 50% from the field. The guard from Trenton New Jersey smoothly put down 14 points, dished out five assists, and grabbed four rebounds.
Three Forks freshman Owen Long stepped up and looked sharp over his 13 minutes. Owen missed one shot on the night, finishing with 10 points, on 3 of 4 shooting from the field.
The Oredigger defense created 28 turnovers, while only giving the ball up four times.
Montana Tech shot 66.2 percent from the floor, and 43.8 percent from the 3-point line. While the Arrows shot 35.6 percent from the field, and 30.8 from the arc.
Montana Tech will be back in action next Friday when they battle Dickinson State University in Dillon, during the Montana Western Classic. Tip-off is scheduled for 2pm.
