BILLINGS, Mont. – The No. 12 Montana Tech Orediggers won their ninth straight game running away from Rocky Mountain in the second half 78-55.
The game stayed close throughout the first half with the Orediggers (18-2, 6-1) leading by seven at one point but the Bears (10-9, 2-5) hung around trailing 37-34 at the break.
Tech shot 48.3% from the field in the first half and completed 5 of their 9 three-point attempts.
Rocky kept up despite shooting 12 of 31 from the field and 4 of 11 from long. The Bears used a 18-15 advantage on the boards with second chance points to keep it close.
The second half was a boat race as the Orediggers outscored the Bears 41-21 shooting 51.9% from the field and finishing with a 50% shooting percentage.
Rocky finished shooting 34.5% in the game and Tech finished ahead in rebounds 33-29. The Bears had 12 turnovers in the game to just six by the Orediggers.
Caleb Bellach led Tech with 26 points and six rebounds. Bellach went 11 of 18 from the field and hit 3 for 7 from beyond the arc.
Asa Williams shot 50% from the field and long finishing with 16 points.
Bridger Larson had his third straight double-digit game coming off the bench with a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Hayden Diekhans had 11 points and four rebounds.
Maxim Stephens led the Bears with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks. Keel Robinson was the only other Rocky player to hit double figures finishing with 19 points and four rebounds.
