Orediggers Rally Past Argos in 69-61

BUTTE, Mont. – The Montana Tech women’s basketball team pulled off the second half rally upending the University of Providence 69-61.

The Orediggers (5-9, 1-3) earned their first conference win under first year head coach Jeff Graham and handed the Argos (11-6, 1-3) their third straight conference loss.

After a sluggish second quarter when the Orediggers scored seven points on 1 of 13 shooting, the Argos took a 29-16 point lead into halftime. The Argos shot 40% from the field in the first half hit just 22% of their attempts.

The second half was another story. Tech cut the Providence advantage to eight points by the end of the third quarter.

Tavia Rooney hit a three-pointer with 4:11 to go in the game putting the Orediggers up 55-54 as the Orediggers were on a 14-5 run. Tech outscored Providence 28-12 in the final frame.

Rooney led the Tech uptick in scoring with 18 of her 26 points in the second half including 12 in the fourth quarter. Rooney finished with a double-double grabbing 13 rebounds. Rooney shot 9 of 13 from the field and hit 3 of 4 from long.

After getting outrebounded in the first half 20-12, the Orediggers flipped the script on the Argos finishing with a 31-30 advantage on the boards.

Tech finished shooting 47.2% from the field in the game after a slow start. Providence went 3 for 18 in the final quarter and shot 32.8% in the game.

Aubrie Rademacher also came alive in the second half with 12 of her 14 points after the break. Rademacher went 6 for 8 from the free throw line and finished with five rebounds.

Soda Rice finished with 8 points hitting 4 of 6 from the field. Ally Cleverly had eight points going 2 for 3 from the field and 3 for 4 from the free throw line.

Dani Urick had seven points and four assists.

Reed Hazard led the Argos with 15 points. Maddy Dixon finished with 14 points and seven rebounds.

Montana Tech hosts MSU-Northern next Thursday at 5 p.m.
