KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has officially announced the teams and Opening Round pairings for the 2016 NAIA Volleyball National Championship today. For the first time in 26 years, Montana Tech has reached the national tournament.
The Orediggers host an opening round game to determine if they move on to the final site in Sioux City, Iowa. Indiana University South Bend (18-21) travels to Butte this week for the opening round. The match takes place at the HPER Complex on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Montana Tech is 2-5 all-time in the national championship.
The top 19 seeds and championship host Morningside (Iowa) automatically advance to the national championship final site. The tournament starts with three days of pool play from Nov. 29-Dec. 1. The top two teams in each pool advances to the elimination bracket on Dec. 2.
Montana Tech finished second in the regular season standings of the Frontier Conference. Carroll College defeated Montana Tech 3-1 winning the Frontier Conference Tournament in Great Falls this past weekend.
